COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The following are community projects we are currently active in supporting, please see their information below:

The American Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (ASPCA)

Due to the generosity of client, Patrcia Hopkins, Pilates Plus Wellness Center is a proud sponsor of ASPCA. The ASPCA was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it’s saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources with shelters across the country, we work toward the day in which no animal will live in pain or fear. Grassfed On The Hill

grassfedGrassfed On The Hill is a group of citizen-consumers who are interested in maintaining our health and the sustainability of the planet. We purchase our food directly from a farmer in Southern PA and have it delivered to one of several locations in the DC area. The products we get from this farmer are all organic (though not certified) and humanely raised. This farmer provides grassfed beef, raw milk from grassfed cows, cheese, free range, milkfed pork, free range eggs and poultry and some other products such as bread, noodles and maple syrup that are not produced on his farm. The raw milk from grassfed, healthy cows offered from this farm has amazing health benefits for those who drink it.

Raw milk has been proven to help with asthma, allergies and autism as well as a host of other chronic diseases and conditions. For more information about this please see the Weston A. Price Foundation website www.westonaprice.org or the website for Organic Pastures Dairy in CA www.organicpastures.com Both of these sites offer great information about raw milk and the science behind it.

The buying club is organized through a yahoo group. Once people become members of the group, they can place orders through the database on the group homepage. There is no minimum order requirement or any obligation to order for a certain amount of time. The food is delivered weekly for those who order. Orders are sent in on Thursday evenings. The delivery to Upper Marlboro is every Thursday and pick-up is between 4-7 pm. If you do choose to join, once you do so, you will receive several documents explaining everything in details about the buying-club, how it is run and how to order and pick-up your food. There is also a FAQ page. Please take the time to read the documents that you get--they should explain everything. If you do not like a lot of emails, please be sure to choose “special notices only” when you are prompted about mail delivery. If you choose “individual emails” you will get many emails relating to the group. If you still have questions after reading the documents, please feel free to be in contact with me and I would be happy to answer any additional questions.

If you have any questions before joining, feel free to contact me. You can e-mail me.

Here is the link to the group home page. From here you can request to join.
